The Magnetic Selection Tool makes complex selections effortless. Simply trace the edges of any object and watch an accurate selection snap around it automatically.
Use the Color Selection Tool to quickly and easily select similarly colored parts of your image. Make rectangular or rounded selections, select rows and columns, draw freehand selections, and more. Just choose an option from the Pixelmator Pro welcome screen or the File menu at the top of the screen.
Select tools from the Tools sidebar to nondestructively edit, arrange, and transform your images, or add text, pictures, and shapes to build multi-layered compositions.

That's been some time ago, but it may be worth a look. Probably something really cheap out there. Also, Pixelmator is open to user feedback and feature requests. Drop them a line and see what they say. Yeah, I think Pixelmator has a bright future ahead; they are off to a good start I think they were one of the top apps in the app store last year, and they get positive reviews everywhere. The price cant be beat. I will definitely send them some feedback regarding a PDF manual, and perhaps a photo-merging plug in.
Take a look at the latest version of GIMP as well if you haven't already. Finally got it native in OS X and like Pixelmator its got some things that it does well and some things that it needs work on. Its heading towards a GEGL framework for its next big update which, as I understand it, means its going to incorporate a node based interface.
Not sure if its going to be in addition to the layer based interface or not. I digress. Its free and worth a look. Have not looked back since switching to Pixelmator about 5 years ago. Photoshop for me is bloated and looks like a house in which the roof has been raised, a conservatory added and the garage converted into a granny flat! It just does not rock my boat!
Also remember that Pixelmator is a Quartz Composer based app. Which means if you take the little time required to learn QC its actually much easier than most folks think , you can create your own plugins.

Pixelmator offers basic compatibility with Pixelmator Pro and can open and export documents that use PXD file format. For now, some layer types such as shapes, masks, color adjustments and effects layers will be flattened on iPhone and iPad.
Support for more layer types is on the roadmap for future updates of Pixelmator for iOS. To open an image from Photos, first tap Create Image in the location you want or tap the Add button at the top of the screen, then tap Photos at the bottom of the screen.
Use the Photos browser to find the photo you'd like to edit. First, try restarting your device. If there's an issue with the document browser, the restart will fix it. If you're still unable to create or open images, try changing the default save location of your Pixelmator files. Some third-party storage providers do not support the iOS and iPadOS-native package type directories that Pixelmator uses for PXM files, so changing the document save location to local storage or iCloud can help.
